I had some issues with termites in my cup boards which Eric took good care of. Eric has a decade of experience in the field of pest control and recently started his own company. He knows well his products and also has some of his own mixtures. The latter was applied to my cupboards – with excellent results.

I find it inspiring and motivating to see people launch their own business. I’m curious to know what drives them, what got them there and why are they doing it from an entrepreneurs perspective. Which fears did they have? How did they overcome them, and a midst risk and adversities started to go ahead. How does a business leader think? Get to know the man who is behind SAFER Pest Control. Hi Mr Jean Eric Seeneevassen, please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit of who you are and what you do in life?
I am 38 years old, happily married to a wonderful wife with whom I have two lovely kids. I am a servant of God preaching the gospel and I am also the director of Safer Pest Control Ltd.

You recently founded the company SAFER Pest Control, which services does the company offer?
Safer Pest Control started its activity on 01 March 2019. We propose treatments for rats, lizards, cockroaches, termites, ants, wasps, mosquitoes, flies and bed bugs.

We have termites treatments. One for preventive termite attack which is done before raising the build and the other one is for properties which are already affected.

We do spraying and fogging against mosquitoes, rodents baiting for inside and outside perimeters, spraying against insects and baiting for lizards.

What motivated you to start your own business?
Giving my best in what I do is very important to me. I have a very good relationship with my clients as my goal has always been my client´s satisfaction first and they were the ones who motivated me to start my company. I prefer to be my own boss in order to give a personalized service and a good follow up.

Since my blog is also read by young entrepreneurs, and those aspiring to launch their own business in Mauritius, which challenges did you face when you wanted to start your own business and how did you convince yourself or let’s say get over the obstacles to take the risk of starting your own business. Any advice for young people?
I encourage every young entrepreneur to go ahead. Good planning brings good success and you have nothing without risking anything. You have to be determined even when you face obstacles. You don’t get things on a plate. Hard work always pays.

How did your journey in pest control begin and why are you passionate about this sector?
I had a hard childhood and lost my father at an early age. It is my mother who took care of me while working as a maid and to whom I am very grateful. Her salary was not enough and I was under the obligation to start working in order to meet the two ends. Her struggle to raise me up as a widow motivated me to be a hard worker. I started at 16 years old as a dishwasher and when my boss noticed my loyalty he promoted me as a waiter. With years passing by, still with the same motivation I became a headwaiter. I spent 11 years in this field. When my wife gave birth to our first child, it was difficult to manage late night work and family with whom I wanted to spend some more time. I had to decide to leave a good salary to start a job as a technician in a Pest Control company. It was not an easy decision to make but my wife believed in my potential and encouraged me to go ahead as she knew that I will work my way up. I gave 100% in my job and after 5 months I was promoted as a salesman. With my experience and hardworking spirit, I was encouraged by my clients to create my company. This is how I started Safer Pest Control.

Safer Pest Control offers its services mainly in the north.

Our services are available to anyone who wishes to protect her/his property/properties against pest.

I have over 9 years experience in this sector.

Pests are carrier of diseases and we do all to protect our family and the environment.

Supermarkets, restaurants, food courts are more at risk as they deal with food to which the public have access.

Must pest control be carried out on a regular basis?
Yes.

What are the benefits of doing a regular pest control?
Regular pest control decreases the level of infestation.

Do you also use eco friendly products?
SAFER Pest Control does apply some eco friendly products. Our aim is to sensitize people that these products are better suited for the environment and our health. We also propose bio products for bed bugs, cockroaches and we are constantly in search for more products.

Which safety measures do you practice when you carry out your activity?
We wear gloves, goggles, masks and safety shoes.

What precautions must be considered when a pest control activity is being carried out at someones premises?
First, the person has to advise us if they have any allergies and if there are any pregnant women in the vicinity.

How do you see the future of pest control?
It is very important to protect the environment because health is a priority. Hence, there is a good future for Pest Control.

Do you think the pest control sector will offer more jobs to youngsters in the future? An area they could consider studying for?
Pest Control forms part of health and safety and there is a good future for youngsters.

When someone books your service, what kind of activity will you carry out at their premises, what is to be expected?
It will depend regarding which treatment we will apply. This will be discussed with the client. They can expect a professional service and guaranteed satisfaction.
